New book

A few months ago, I bought this book from Hélène JEANCLAUDE:

Here is my first try at something from it. It is supposed to be a necklace but I have not mounted it as I was just trying so I did not make the proper opening at the back. I have added a flower from a cane I had left. I'll need to try that again and make it as a proper necklace this time :-)

Pocket mirrors

New projects over the weekend: pocket mirrors.

I have used my purple rose cane which I had not touched for a very long time but which was still OK. I do not usually use bright colours but I think the contrast between the purple and orange is pretty cool on that one.

The second mirror looks simpler but I really like the effect of the black fimo mixed with some mica powder.

Another new thing: I have overcome the fear of using resin. Yeah! Those pieces can have a better finish.

Both mirrors are available :-)

Nostalgia....

This is what happens when you decide to clear out and go through boxes.

Due to space issues, I had to put away my Fimo space so I said goodbye to my pasta machine and my oven: both back in their boxes. My knives, rollers, cookie cutters, inks, powders...sad moment.
But it is just for a few months hopefully and I have plenty of other things to do!

So of course, when clearing out, you go through boxes and come accross things, hence the necklaces in my previous post and today's necklace. This was my very first flower cane that looked (to me!) like a flower! I remember how excited I was when I completed it. I could not stop admiring the cane on the table and wouldn't dare cutting it.

In the end, I finally made this necklace. Not so convinced now that I look back at it lol
What do you think? Feel free to comment!

The neverending project...part 3! (and the end lol)

I realised I actually never posted the picture of the finished scarf necklace my twin asked to make for her.
So here it is! Even with following the book's instructions and quantities, I find that the beads are too big and heavy for that sort of design. My sister liked it but she said some of the beads fell after a little while. I might try it again but will surely reduce the amounts of fimo in order to make the beads much smaller

Long time no see...

Yes, I haven't posted for a little while. The truth? No time and when I did try to sit at the table (without falling asleep lol), I had no inspiration. It was frustrating.
My twin has asked me to make her a ring and a bracelet that would match the necklace I made for her birthday....it's been weeks and I still haven't managed to come up with anything.

Anywhooo....I showed her a book I got and she asked me to make her one necklace from it. Of course....she didn't pick the easiest :-) I admit that project was one of the reason why I bought the book but never found the time or "courage" to try it.  And all of a sudden I thought "come on! let's try this!". I have done half of it so far and it has taken me quite some time. Let's take a look.

This is the first step: all the canes, separated...

...and once put together in one cane. (sorry for the dark but I finished it at night time...about 30 minutes ago)

I am a bit disappointed when I compare it with the pictures from the book. The leaves didn't come out as proper leaves and the orange of the flower in the middle has disappeared (where? I have no clue!) on two of the petals.

I still have to make that same cane in white to finish the project.

That's all for today :-)

Oh! and here is the book if you are interested

Canes

One day I was talking with my cousin about my jewellery: she asked for me to make a bracelet and thought it could be made very quickly as I was just "buying the beads and putting them together" lol
I told her it was more complicated than this and that each bead had to be handmade, included the designs on them. The way it works is that you make a cane with the desired design. You then slice this cane and apply those thin slices on a bead you've made.
I made two canes this week (hadn't made one for months) and thought I would take some pictures for her to see. A cane can take anything from a few hours to days depending on how complex it is.
There is no text with the pics as I think it is self explanatory and it is just to give an idea (I am no good at making tutorials. Never tried actually lol)
Simple Black & White Flower Cane
and my first Rose Cane (I have used a tutorial from Sigal Simovich). I realised once I was done that I'd put the outter petals inside out, duh! Although it doesn't really look like a real rose (surely not the one in the tutorial!) I am happy with the result for a first one :-) I will find something to make with it.
That's all for today :-)
