Nostalgia....

This is what happens when you decide to clear out and go through boxes.

Due to space issues, I had to put away my Fimo space so I said goodbye to my pasta machine and my oven: both back in their boxes. My knives, rollers, cookie cutters, inks, powders...sad moment.
But it is just for a few months hopefully and I have plenty of other things to do!

So of course, when clearing out, you go through boxes and come accross things, hence the necklaces in my previous post and today's necklace. This was my very first flower cane that looked (to me!) like a flower! I remember how excited I was when I completed it. I could not stop admiring the cane on the table and wouldn't dare cutting it.

In the end, I finally made this necklace. Not so convinced now that I look back at it lol

Oldies

Here are some of the first necklaces I made when I started playing with polymer clay.

On that one, I think I had mixed some fimo together and just made beads with. Except for the white ones which are white clay that I cured then painted with some white pearl paint. The striped bead is made of white polymer clay (still Fimo) on which I put some black stripes of black Fimo.

This one was with the same techniques. The only difference is that the focal bead on that one was my very first "shaped" cane (I don't know how to call them when you put a character or shape in them that it not a flower lol)

Here you can see the details of that bead: yes! it was a cat! I was so proud of that one. I love that bead. I might dismantle this necklace just to have it back :-)

Craft show: "ID-Creative"

I went to my very first Craft show over the weekend! A few weeks ago, my sister (not Madame "L", another sister) got some tickets for it. I was so excited because I had never been to one. I know, it sounds weird considering what I do :-)

Anyway, we spent an afternoon there together and it was fun. There were a lot of stalls in that place, sometimes maybe too many as it was hard to walk through those aisles and see some of the things people had to show or sell.

In all though, it was great as that sort of show is very helpful when you are in search of new things to do. Although everywhere you look, you see something you want to try so you have to stop yourself , or you would start a new hobby everyday lol

The downside are the prices: they are sometimes ridiculous! I am, of course, not talking about people selling their creations, but I am referring to the findings, beads, threads, etc.. I honestly didn't buy any of those knowing well I would be able to find them much cheaper and in bigger quantities on eBay lol

Seriously! They would sell you a tiny bead for 1€ when you could have 3 or 4 of them for the same price online. The only thing I bought because I had never seen it before was some sort of thread made of recycled plastic bottles. I will have to think of what I will do with that. It seems they mainly do bracelets with it. I will see...

I also got to see some girls from a blog I follow regularly. It was kind of cool to see them in real life: it made my sister laugh because I was all happy about that. I didn't talk to them but listened to the tips they gave on fimo which I will surely remember!

I have to try and attend more craft shows in the future: they are fun!!

Introducing....

Madame "L": my model.

I was playing today with new stuff (fabric and a new app as you will see from the pictures below), and each time this happens, I need to try them on someone :-)

So I just wait for her to get back from work and jump on her as soon as I can!
Yesterday was while she was checking her emails....working girl!

"What is on her head?!" you are asking yourself. Well, Madame L loooooves those biscuits: they are called "Lunettes" in French. I made one in polymer clay a little while ago but didn't know what to make with it for her. Yesterday I made a headband and added it to it. But in the end, not too convinced, so I will change it to something else.

Lunch bag - Part 2

Remember that lunch bag? My sister has asked me to put some sort of lining inside, in case some food or drink spill in it: she found one that she liked a couple of weeks ago so I got started.

As it is my first time doing this and not with the easiest material, I can say that I need to find a better way of doing it. I sewed the top part, but then finished my thread for the rest. And I remembered I did buy a glue gun on the day I bought the felt for that bag. I was waiting for an occasion to try it out so I finished the lining with it.

I know I need to figure out a better way of cutting it for the inside of the bag. I will think of it for the next one.

The obvious cutting issues put aside....what do you think?

ooh! and I forgot to show the detail of the button I made with fimo when I first finished the bag. I used the mokume-gane technique.

Yummy present

It was my niece's birthday last week and she has been asking me for a long time to make a replica of a birthday cake her mum (my other sister) made for her second birthday.

It took me 3 days to make. Rather than make the actual two-tier cake she had, I decided to turn in into something a bit more practical than just a fake cake. So I covered two boxes with the Fimo. She can eventually use them as jewellery boxes one day?

I tried as much as I could to stick to the original one: she seems to have liked it, so my work here is done!

Sunday interlude...

Today I tried a design inspired by a tutorial from indigonova1 on YouTube called Bold Retro Wallpaper.

Here is the version I tried on my sister's nails:

My sister is not a fan of the result I must say but she is kind enough to keep it for a week in case it grows on her :-)
Mine sort of hurts the eyes when looking at it lol Not sure I will do this again. But at least I have tried!

Shopping!

While in London, I went to one of my favourite places: Covent Garden!

This area is great for crafters (well...for getting beads and findings). That is where I found the only shop where I can get my Fimo from: The London Graphic Centre. It is the only shop so far where I can find the bigger blocks of fimo.

Then, I got all excited to get back to that little bead shop further down...but to my surprise: it was shut! I have been getting findings from that shop for a couple of years. The owner was a chinese guy, very funny and you always had some fun music in there. Anyway....

 

 

I went further down to the next shop I knew would still be there for sure: The London Bead Shop. This place is big.



They have so many different beads and findings: it is beads heaven!

I got a few beads for future projects, as well as some findings I was missing for unfinished projects I started before I went to London. With that shop, I've never had to go anywhere else. They also have a website where you can order online: I have never used it as I have always managed to go straight there lol

Fruity earrings

I saw a tutorial on the net on how to make coconuts and found it funny. I do not remember at present where I saw it as it was a long time ago (and the link is saved on my laptop which is at home right now), so I do apologise for not being able to mention the author. All I remember is that it is in Russian!

Here are my coconut earrings:

My sister (yes, you again!), told me she saw a colleague with some cherries earrings one day. So I made some too. The cherries are made with white clay that I covered in gold powder, then cured, then painted with glass paint. I did the same for the leaves. I like the result, but I would have liked the paint to be more red: it is "Carmin" but very dark I think.
